Home / Life @ GSC / Student Services / Chaplain Services

At Geraldton Senior College, we are very fortunate to have two School Chaplains, Eric and Sharon, who are very experienced and approachable. They provide support for our young people, families, carers and school staff.

As part of our school support program at Student Services, both Chaplains help with many issues that occur at school or at home. The teenage years can be most challenging. It is a period of self-discovery, brain development, changes in thought process and finding boundaries. This time can also be trying for families, carers, peers and school staff who endeavour to assist and guide each young person to find his or her way during the teenage years (approx 12 to 19 years of age). Mediation is offered for families and carers to help keep lines of communication open with their teen.

The Chaplains run a breakfast program 5 days a week where everyone is welcome. Toast, Milo and fruit are supplied. A selection of fruit is offered in our Student Services area each day to anyone who wants it. These programs are a real success, as people who have something to eat are able to concentrate better. Our breakfast program also encourages our students to expand their friendship groups.

Chaplains help with a variety of issues including bullying and conflict. We encourage restorative justice and allow both sides to tell their story. Mediation is encouraged as this empowers everyone involved to take responsibility for moving forward in a healthy, positive way.

The topics that we help with extend further than bullying and conflict. We provide resilience strategies to help students overcome many situations such as:

  • Bullying
  • Conflict mediation
  • Family conflict / family breakdown
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Death
  • Sickness
  • Peer pressure
  • Drug / alcohol issues
  • Domestic violence
  • Abuse
  • School issues
  • Attitude
  • Referral to community agencies, if needed

In facing the many challenges of life, it is important to remember that you are not alone. Support from the school, home or community services is available but it is up to you; students, parents or carers to simply reach out and ask. Our Chaplains are available Monday to Friday from 8am.
