Geraldton Senior College has a purpose-built modern library run by a dedicated library team. The myriad of library services we offer are seen as essential to the development of learning skills.

Reading is a window to the world. Inquiry provides a framework for learning. These are the foundations upon which our library is built. As our definition of information literacy becomes more complex, as resources and technologies change, Dr Parry and his enthusiastic team provide invaluable solutions. They make sure everyone has fair access to books and reading, to information, and to information technology. And they do so in an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.

The library is a real place. There is always a quiet spot to read, write and think. Peace and quiet is as essential to well-being as fresh air and parks. We have an extensive fiction section and subscribe to all the popular magazines.

The library is a virtual place. Users point their devices and jump up to the cloud. We offer wireless connectivity and lightning-fast connection speeds. Parents expect, and students deserve, the best technology available. Dr Parry and his team work tirelessly to make that happen.

The library is a place to be social. Learning is enhanced by opportunities to share and learn with others. In this increasingly global world of information, our students are taught to seek diverse perspectives, gather and use information ethically, and use social tools responsibly and safely.

We are open from 8.30am to 3.30pm every school day including recess (borrowings only) and lunch. All staff and students are welcome to borrow physical resources.

Our library: setting the standard for 21st-century learners.

You never quite know what to expect in the library, but some days you just have to roll with it. This mystery ninja strolled up to Dr Parry and reassured him the sword wasn’t real. Phew! We just had to share this with you all. Turns out the class was reading about ninjas. (As you […]

Whenever Mr Chao walks into the library, you know it’s going to be good news. He is not just a Math genius, but a STEM teacher extraordinaire. And when it comes to robots, Mr Chao can even give notebook computers wheels and send them off down the corridor. So it comes as no surprise that […]

  • One Thousand Borrowers Can’t Be Wrong

Three terms in, and the library is on target to reach its 2017 goal of one thousand books taken home! That is awesome. Some are saying we may even reach 1,200, which would have to be some kind of record! The main thing is this; students and staff love their library. And get this: one […]

  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!

If there was an annual award for Best School Library Display, this masterpiece by our very own Ms Fairclough would surely be up there with the best. It is brilliant, and that’s what a lot of students and staff say when they see it for the first time. It is also important; we have so […]

  • Big Brother Is Watching You
by The Library Team on September 19, 2017 at 3:51 am

One of the most talked about displays all year has been this one, where students imagined a future where civil liberties are lost. Verdict: scary! And though it may be a depressing subject, let’s look at the positive here. Isn’t it fantastic that our students are already thinking about being proactive politically? A bleak Orwellian […]
