During the in-class competition, Year 10 META Science students were required to research several designs of CO2 dragsters online, apply their understanding of aerodynamics drags and surface friction to refine their designs and race against each other using their CO2 dragsters.

Each dragster, constructed from a lightweight pine is designed with a hole at the back to hold a very small canister filled with pressurised carbon dioxide.  As the flag is raised and the race commences, students use a launch pad to activate the canister and the dragster races along a stringline to the finish. Students cheer on their classmates in hopes for the fastest dragster and compare designs to learn how the different designs performed.
