Year 11&12 Handbook

To our prospective students.

Welcome!

Thinking about and planning for your future is a difficult task.  Choosing a career pathway is one of the most important decisions you make.

Senior Schooling is a phase where you need to choose a program that contains courses of study that suit your interests and ambitions and will allow you to achieve your preferred post school destination.

Geraldton Senior College continues to build on its reputation for offering a wide range of programs that are contemporary.  Many feature strong partnerships with the Central West College of TAFE, Training Agencies and the broader business and commerce communities.

A focus over the next two years will be the continued development of transition programs to cater for those who are staying on at school longer as a consequence of ‘Raising the School Leaving Age.’ Our community partnerships will be further strengthened as we implement these programs and ensure maximum numbers meet the new Western Australian Certificate of Education requirements.

The diversity of courses and programs offer opportunities for all our students to prepare for University, TAFE, further education and training and the world of work.

This handbook contains information to help you decide which direction to take after Year 10.  There are many options and you will need to consider the course details carefully and be prepared to seek advice and have discussions with parents, counsellors and others.

As a Senior College we are continuing to move toward developing an ethos that is appropriate to the needs of young adults.  You are expected to take greater responsibility for your decisions and most programs feature rigour and require you to become self directed in your study and organization.

The College provides a co-operative and supportive environment with opportunities for you to acquire the knowledge, skills and values which will empower you to realise your potential and achieve your goals.

I look forward to welcoming you to Geraldton Senior College.
